Q:
If the receipt of parents’ medical expense is issued under parents’ name, am I eligible to claim the personal tax relief under medical expenses for parents?
A:
As long as you are the one who paid for the medical expense, you are eligible to claim the relief. You can prove this by showing the payment proof such as your credit card transaction slip or credit card statement.
Q:
How much personal tax relief can I claim if my child is undertaking a Foundation course in a university?
A:
If your child is undertaking a Foundation course, you are only eligible to claim child relief of RM2,000. However, you may claim child relief of RM8,000 if your child is undertaking a Diploma programme or above in a tertiary institution in Malaysia, or Degree programme or above in a tertiary institution outside Malaysia.
